Dr. Gabriela Dieckmann

Ophthalmologist and Senior Clinical Research Fellow

Dr. Gabriela Dieckmann is an ophthalmologist and Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences of Tufts University. She received her M.D. as well as her Ph.D. at Fluminense University, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Dr. Gabriela Dieckmann’s research centers on clinical aspects and epidemiology of chronic eye pain. She is especially interested in neuropathic pain related to dry eye syndrome and systemic diseases (diabetes, for example) as well as the role of corneal nerves in the modulating alloimmunity. Dr. Dieckmann is also using imaging of peripheral and central pathways of pain. All of her projects share an aim of identifying underlying immunomodulatory and neural mechanisms behind neuropathic pain progression and chronification (the process by which temporary, transient pain progresses into persistent pain).
