Dr. Sean Mackey, M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Mackey received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona in Tucson, where he subsequently earned his medical degree. He went on to Stanford where he completed his Anesthesiology residency and fellowship in Pain Management. He is currently an Associate Professor in Anesthesia and Neuroscience, and Chief of the Pain Management Division. His current National Institutes of Health funding is focused on developing and using fMRI techniques to investigate pain in the human spinal cord. He also oversees the Stanford Systems Neuroscience and Pain Lab, and leads multiple acute and chronic pain projects, which are funded by a variety of NIH, foundation, and industry-sponsored grants.
